BUSINESS Line--October, 2005: Solix Tech to expand R&D team here

Sunnyvale, Calif. – August, 2005 – SolixTechnologies, database management solutions provider, has sewn up plans to expand its research and development team at its India centre in Hyderabad.

The company plans to induct about 250 people more during next 12 months, thereby doubling its headcount and also consolidate its marketing reach through strategic partnerships in various regions.

The President and Chief Executive Officer of Solix, Mr Sai Gundavelli, told Business Line , "The company had invested significant amounts in technology, distancing itself away from the services-driven model approach. This has begun to yield results and we have decided to further strengthen the R&D team here with an investment of about $3 million in physical infrastructure and human resources."

Mr Gundavelli, who operates out of the US and is now on a visit to oversee the company's expansion, said, "We are also holding talks with the State Government for land and expect to finalise the expansion plan soon. The recent partnership with IBM reflects the potential this market holds for us."

"If you look at what Google has done to individuals in helping search information on the Web, Solix enables companies in extracting valuable information from their enterprise database resources. , It operates on various databases — be it Oracle, IBM or Microsoft," Mr Gundavelli explained.

Solix helps extract, segregate and make large databases more accessible. Given the explosion in e-mail and documents, companies would be hard-pressed to manage such large data. In fact, a lot of information, particularly financial, on these databases can be masked. While storage itself is a challenge, many companies want an effective retrieval system. Be it the case of Sarbanes Oxley compliance or HIPAA, they are faced with the challenging task of segregating the available information.

The market is estimated at about $4 billion by 2007, he said.
