ILM - A Cloud Data Management Best Practice

Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) is a best practice for managing data throughout its lifecycle. ILM solutions are intended to improve the performance of enterprise applications, reduce infrastructure costs and provide governance, risk and compliance frameworks for enterprise data. Organizations are able to optimize their infrastructure with a tiered cloud data management strategy, and establish a control framework for proper data governance and compliance.

Industry analysts point out that up to 80% of data is not current, and the value of data declines dramatically over time. ILM classifies data at creation and moves data across infrastructure tiers based on business rules and retention policies. ILM ensures that only current, active data is consuming valuable tier one compute and storage resources, and that all data is governed by compliance policy throughout its lifecycle.

Solix ILM Solutions

  • Enterprise Archiving

Establish an enterprise scale ILM strategy by archiving and retiring structured and/or unstructured data into Apache Hadoop based on retention policies. Access archived data via structured query or text search.

  • Database Archiving

Quickly identify infrequently accessed historic data from your production applications, and ‘move’ it to a secure archive with data integrity and access preserved. It greatly helps optimize infrastructure, improve application performance, reduce software license and storage costs.

  • Test Data Management

Automate the creation intelligently sized and secure database subsets (not clones), that save up to 80% on storage space while still providing a syntactically correct copy of the production database needed to achieve the most accurate test results.

  • Enterprise Data Lake

Solix Enterprise Data Lake reduces the complexity and processing burden to stage EDW and analytics applications, and provides highly efficient, bulk storage of enterprise data for later use when it is needed. Solix Data Lake provides a copy of production data and stores it “as is” in bulk for later use.

  • Application Retirement

Simplify your application infrastructure by decommissioning legacy applications and data that are no longer active. Reduce infrastructure costs by retiring data to low-cost infrastructure with full or even enhanced access.

  • Data Masking

Discover sensitive data at scale and mask them using one of the twenty-five predefined security rules or using your own custom built rules. The Solix Data Masking preserves the format and the referential integrity across the datasets.
