Solix to Present Best Practices for Data Security at COLLABORATE 06

Rapid Rise in Security Threats, Identity Theft and Government Regulation Brings Data-Driven Approaches to the Forefront for Oracle Users

Sunnyvale, CA. April, 2006 — Solix Technologies, a leading global provider of Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) solutions, announced that Dinu Joshi, Vice President of Engineering and Oracle Practice for Solix, will present “Data Security is Less Expensive Than Your Next Liability Lawsuit: Best Practices in Application Data Security” at the Oracle Application Users Group (OAUG) COLLABORATE 06 Conference, to be held April 23 through 27 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tennessee. Dinu’s address will explore why enterprises must take a better-organized approach to data security in today’s business climate driven by concerns over identity theft, privacy and regulatory compliance.

“The return on investment of a data security solution for the non-production environment is easily justifiable against the potential loss by heavy fines levied by government agencies and possible loss of reputation by exposing private data to the public domain,” said Dinu. “Organizations should take reasonable and necessary steps towards implementing appropriate security controls and balance risk versus costs when housing sensitive data. When choosing the appropriate level of data security and the algorithms used to encrypt or mask data at the column level, all data security solutions must adhere to the standard Oracle schema to ensure fully functional data security across production and archived data.”

The forces driving data security – government regulations and potential fines, as well as loss of customers and a damaged reputation – require a versatile and multidimensional approach to data security. That approach must not be purely technological or application-centric, but must also consider business policies, processes and regulations. Dinu’s presentation will describe Solix’s knowledge-driven data security methods and how they are implemented in an Oracle E-Business Suite environment.

Dinu is the founder of the Archive and Purge Special Interest Group at OAUG and is the organization’s worldwide coordinator. He has more than 25 years of experience in providing enterprise application solutions and is a recognized pioneer and innovator in ILM. His presentation will be given on Thursday, April 27 at 12:15 pm.

COLLABORATE 06: Technology and Applications Forum for the Oracle Community , is the annual conference of the Oracle Applications Users Group (OAUG), the Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG), and the Quest International Users Group (Quest). Among many other topics relevant to the Oracle community, the conference will feature in-depth presentations and technical training on best practices with respect to Oracle standards, including comprehensive coverage of data and application security issues.

About ILM and Data Security

Data security achieved by an organized approach to Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) is more important now than ever, with database breaches and identity theft at high-profile companies in the news almost daily. Such security breaches put the personal information of individuals at risk, and the organizations responsible are exposed to potential large fines as well as lasting damage to their corporate reputation. As a recent example, ChoicePoint Inc. agreed to pay $15M to settle Federal Trade Commission charges over data security and record-handling procedures. Recognizing the seriousness of the threat, Congress has introduced data security legislation in the Personal Data Privacy and Security Act of 2005 , and data security legislation has passed in at 20 states. In response, Corporations are rapidly developing and implementing new data security protocols as identity theft, privacy control and regulatory compliance are generating heightened interest in securing the data itself.
