Data Sense: teaching AI what your data means

At the core of Data Sense is the Application Knowledge Graph (AKG) — a semantic map of everything AI needs to query an enterprise application accurately: the business objects, relationships, terms, and tested query patterns inside the value streams your business runs on. Pre-built AKGs are available for major enterprise applications, and they’re variant-aware — they detect your as-implemented configuration and graft your customizations into a thin overlay on the shared base graph. The expertise is pre-built; the fit is yours.

For everything else — custom applications, homegrown systems, the applications you retired years ago — the Data Sense guided workflow builds the AKG from your data itself, in ten reviewable stages. And here’s what’s new since we first introduced it: Data Sense no longer needs your schema to explain itself. Many enterprise databases are effectively dark schemas — cryptic names, no declared keys, documentation long gone, original developers gone with it. In most enterprise applications, relationships were enforced by the application, not the database — retire the application and the database goes structurally silent. Data Sense discovers structure from the data: it profiles every column inside your database, infers keys, and finds real relationships by testing how values actually connect — then automatically reconciles the candidates so only relationships the data supports make it into the map. AI drafts the business meaning; your data stewards confirm it from a ranked shortlist, with the evidence on the card. Every assertion carries provenance and confidence.

Data Sense now also closes the loop after the build. With the new self-service accuracy tools, an application owner can test real user questions before publishing and fix anything that comes back wrong — correct a generated query and teach it as a verified example, or steer the engine with a hint in natural language. No engineering ticket, no rebuild. The knowledge graph gets smarter every time someone teaches it.

Beyond structured data, Content Intelligence ingests and indexes contracts, policies, manuals, and email into a semantic index that produces cited answers, and Intelligent Classification sorts records into your business categories — your retention codes, your sensitivity tiers — driving retention and legal hold at enterprise scale.

Data Ask: one question, one governed answer

Data Ask is where activation becomes visible. Business users ask questions in natural language and get accurate, grounded answers on demand — from structured databases, from document repositories, or from both at once.

Behind the single chat interface, an AI-powered Conversation Router classifies every question and dispatches it to the right engine — structured query grounded in the AKG, unstructured search with citations, or hybrid, which runs both and synthesizes one coherent answer with the table and the sources side by side.

Two design decisions make the difference between a demo and something an enterprise can trust. First, Data Ask never guesses. “Show me Q4 revenue” — which Q4? Which revenue measure? Guided disambiguation presents meaningful choices and confirms intent before any query runs. Second, every answer shows its work. Answers trace back to source tables and documents, with permission-aware retrieval, PII filtering, and a full audit trail built in by design — not bolted on.

Because Data Sense and Data Ask activate data wherever it already lives — production applications, archived data in Solix CDP, data lakehouses, cloud ERPs through AI Warehouse — moving from ready to activated doesn’t require a costly migration project.
